The Kula Foundation began with a simple but powerful idea:
Change grows when people come together.
[koo-la] “kula” (कुल) – A sanskrit term, translates to Community, Family, or Tribe. It can also refer to a group, club, culture, or even a specific abode or house. The term has been found in contexts related to ancestry, roots, and place of belonging.
Founded in 2024, The Kula Foundation was born out of a shared recognition that while global challenges can seem overwhelming, community designed action can transform lives. What started as a small volunteer initiative evolved into a foundation that supports local and international projects – from improving sanitation in rural Kenya to empowering communities through sustainable livelihoods, education, and environmental restoration.

What We Do
We believe that development is not something done for people, but with people — through partnership, listening, and shared purpose.
For us, Kula reflects the essence of what we do:
We share knowledge, opportunities, and resources so that every community can thrive on its own terms.

Who We Are
The Kula Foundation is a UK-based charity working to build stronger, fairer, and more sustainable communities through social, economic, and environmental action.
We connect people and projects across the globe, creating opportunities that inspire learning, collaboration, and long-term resilience – one small act at a time.
Our Values
Community
We believe local people hold the answers. Our role is to listen, support, and connect ideas that strengthen communities.
Sustainability
We take a long-term view, supporting projects that protect the environment and encourage self-sufficiency.
Collaboration
We partner across borders and sectors to amplify impact – because progress is always a collective effort.
Integrity
We are transparent in how we work, accountable to the people we serve, and guided by a sense of shared humanity.
Empowerment
We aim to build confidence, skills, and opportunities that allow individuals and groups to take ownership of their development.
Meet the Team
The Kula Foundation is led entirely by volunteers who bring diverse experience and shared purpose to our mission.
